Ra Mava

Born in Umthatha in South Africa's Eastern Cape, DJ Ra Mava acknowledges his mother as the primary source of his love for music. As the 1990s turned into the 2000s, his siblings' tastes began to rub off on one another, opening Mava's mind and ears to kwaito, house, and hip-hop. These solid foundations underpin Ra Mava's musical output as a percussionist and DJ. Percussion-wise, he has been a long-term contributor to the Xhopera (Xhosa +opera) of Mthwakazi as well as providing additional depth with his djembe, congas, shakers, isitolotolo, and range of wooden toys to live shows.
