Alibeta is a curator, filmmaker, musician and writer. His main focus in the last two years has been KENU Lab’Oratoire des Imaginaires, a community-led interdisciplinary laboratory at the cross-section between arts, culture, and research which was founded in 2020 and is based in the heart of the Ouakam neighborhood in Dakar, Senegal. His curatorial practice is based on an exploratory movement that aims to reveal the local imaginaries that shape ways in which we live together and that explores questions around communal relationality. Local imaginaries, common visions and principles of the neighborhood are central elements to his curatorial practice. The fundamental role of imaginaries becomes even more evident in the context of coloniality and its ramifications which are felt in everyday life and have also entered the imaginaries of its so called “subjects”. What does it mean to decolonise our imaginaries? What kind of meanings do our imaginaires carry? What are the tales that shape our imaginaries? How to create new ones?
