What a Playground | Josiane & Lena Brecht

What a Playground is a series of gatherings initiated by Josiane and Lena Brecht aiming to create an open and safer space for emerging House DJs, trying to especially empower FLINTA* and BIPoC artists, encouraging them to play first sets to an appreciative, curious, and diverse crowd. A space of warm tunes, soft vibes, and new encounters. The format is not only about creating pleasure and joy but also about caring for each other. During each gathering they invite everybody to support a trusted organisation whose work helps underrepresented people.

At playgrounds, we let go ... to enjoy, explore, and connect with others – no matter who we are and where we're from. Especially when our world gets more complex and utopian from day to day, creating spaces that provide ease, care, and connection can help individuals to recharge. Additionally, playing can create flow - a state of mind in which a person performing some activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energised focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity.

Using this playground metaphor as a special place they also refer to House music and its roots: using the special place of a house to describe a type of music that always created spaces or moreover homes for all the outsiders together and gave them a home, a family, regardless of race, age, sexuality or gender. And therefore spaces of change. In their radio show, they’d love to research the power of change between the poles of challenging realities and personal strategies of people who foster positive change in different fields. How do they find their energy for their battles? What’s their perspective on ease, playing, connection, and flow?

Each episode will feature a little interview with one individual including some songs connected to their stories. This will be framed by some House tracks played and selected by Josiane and Lena Brecht.
