For many years, various initiatives have been advocating for increased visibility and networking opportunities for female* DJs. However, until today, lineups at clubs and festivals are predominantly dominated by male-identifying DJs. Especially within the Afghan community, female DJs are significantly underrepresented. Together with DJ Masta Sai, we aim to discuss why this is the case and explore the possibilities she sees in making DJing more accessible for women in general and Afghan women in particular. DJ Masta Sai was the resident DJ of the regular Zembîl series at SO 36 in Berlin. Today, you can find her regularly at the Tasty Party at SchwuZ and at Gayhane in SO 36. With her traditionally rooted and pan-cultural "Best Berlinistan Garam Masala Sound," she provided musical accompaniment to the first Afghan Surf Championships in Portugal in 2015. As the first German-Afghan DJ, she is a pioneer in the Berlin club scene with her extensive music spectrum of S.W.A.N.A. and South Asian dance beats. As the name "Masta" suggests, her sounds transport the audience into a euphoric dance frenzy.

Seit vielen Jahren setzen sich diverse Initiativen für die stärkere Sichtbarmachung und Vernetzung weiblicher* DJs ein. Doch bist heute werden die Lineups von Clubs und Festivals von vornehmlich männlich gelesenen DJs dominiert. Insbesondere in der afghanischen Community sind weibliche DJs stark unterrepräsentiert. Gemeinsam mit DJ Masta Sai wollen wir diskutieren warum das so ist und welche Möglichkeiten sie sieht, um die Zugänge zum Auflegen auch für Frauen allgemein und afghanische Frauen insbesondere zu erleichtern.

DJ Masta Sai war Resident-DJ der regelmäßigen Zembîl-Reihe des SO 36 in Berlin. Heute findet ihr sie regelmäßig auf der Tasty Party vom SchwuZ und bei der Gayhane im SO 36. Mit ihrem traditionell verankerten und pankulturellen „Best Berlinistan Garam Masala Sound“ hat sie die ersten afghanischen Surfmeisterschaften 2015 in Portugal musikalisch begleitet. Als erste Deutsch-Afghanische DJ ist sie mit ihrem weitreichendem Musikspektrum aus S.W.A.N.A. und South Asian Dance Beats ein*e Pionier*in in der Berliner Clubszene. Wie der Name „Masta“ bereits anklingen lässt, versetzt sie mit ihren Klängen das Publikum in ein euphorisches Tanzfieber.
