Sound Metaphors

Since 2015, Sound Metaphors has worked tirelessly in service of a simple goal: to shine a light on the music, culture and attitudes of musical movements that have built what we understand as contemporary nightclubbing - whilst paying respect to the history and partaking in ever ongoing process of the spirit of hedonism, excess and love for the art within the music.

The physical headquarters for these efforts is the Sound Metaphors record shop located in Krezuberg, Berlin. Impeccably curated and a flagship hangout for a certain strand of music fanatic in Berlin - those interested in the scruffier side of house, Balearic, disco oddities, nascent proto-Trance, genre-bending Industrial and Wave and way beyond.

This same interest, love and dedication is expressed through the Sound Metaphors imprint, and its host of sub-labels (Miss You, Thank You, Bless You, Sound Metaphors 23, Sound Migration) that, through high quality vinyl releases, bring to life reissues, re-edits, compilations and contemporary productions. By delving through the depths the broad church that is adult, discerning dance music in it’s many different guises the labels shine a light on Disco, Italo, Hi-NRG, Industrial, New Beat, Progressive House, Ambient and Freetekno (to name only a few) and their various mutations - bound together by their place in the ongoing development of legitimate, meaningful dance music that respects it’s own history and culture.
