Marcelo Umaña

Record collector, producer & radio enthusiast Marcelo Umaña is one of the pioneering DJs of the electronic music scene in Chile. He started his musical journey in 1991, when he participated in the first house & techno parties held in Santiago and other major cities of the country, such as Barracuda and Ultramedia. He was a member of the staff at Background Records, between the years 1994-1998, a specialised record store that became the epicentre of the incipient national scene and the birthplace of different initiatives like the organisation of secret parties and a record label. He was a resident DJ of the first clubs in the Chilean capital such as Open House and Casa Club.

In 1998 he became one of the residents of the most important Club in the history of dance music in Chile, Club La Feria. He was there every weekend for three years behind the decks until June 2001, when he left his homeland to move to Amsterdam. In the city of the canals, he performed in several venues and festivals, along with various appearances in European capitals such as London, Paris, Berlin, and Madrid, as well as in the Middle East and South America. In the last three decades, he has dedicated his energy to spreading the love for music and its different genres and has participated in different radio shows among which those carried out on Radio Isla Negra, Red Light Radio in Amsterdam and today on Atlantis Digital Radio.

Since 2012 he has been a resident of Pllek, one of the emblematic places in Amsterdam, where he has developed eclectic sets, mixing ambient, Balearic, downtempo, disco, house, and more.
