Born in North-East London, Kianja grew up on a rich musical diet of Soul, Reggae, and Jazz. She began songwriting and performing at 12 before spending three formative years in Durban, South Africa, where her love for Jazz deepened. Upon returning to London, she honed her craft at the Brit School, Tomorrow's Warriors, and Guildhall, all while writing and producing her music.
Her debut EP "Glory" gained critical acclaim, earning support from BBC Radio 1, Rinse FM, and BBC 1Xtra, as well as a collaboration with Bastille and Craig David. As an independent artist since 2023, Kianja’s releases have been featured on major Spotify playlists and national in-store playlists for M&S and The Body Shop. Her music has received consistent airplay on BBC 1Xtra and BBC Radio.
Renowned for her powerful live performances, she was personally recommended by Nile Rodgers to perform at the Meltdown Festival. She has graced legendary venues like Ronnie Scott’s, Colors Hoxton, and Royal Festival Hall.
In 2024, Kianja continues to make waves with performances at Café Koko, All Points East Festival, Somerset House, We Out Here Festival, and Koko Ellen’s Room.
