HANOMANN_O! is the new sonic persona of Ariel Orah (a.k.a. ravenative), blending critical narratives of diasporic (self-)tropical exoticization and the bittersweet irony of post-mooi indie melancholic nostalgia into bittersweet eclectic grooves and textures. The name fuses Hanoman, the most mystical monkey from South and Southeast Asia (symbolizing resistance, moral strength, and spiritual force against oppression), with a cheeky twist on the German exclamation “Mann, o!”—an expression of frustration, surprise, or disbelief.
