It's important to me to find sounds that can be brought into other, unfamiliar contexts, to enter into symbioses with other arts - including the performing arts.
After studying music and spending time abroad in Norway and the USA, Benjamin drew inspiration from genres ranging from electro to techno to neoclassical music, never losing his roots in (jazz) improvisation. The solo project BERNSTEINZIMMER developed from this in 2021.
Since then, he has been pursuing the desire to combine his musical origins, improvisation, classical music, and jazz with electronic-conceptual music. A three-month trip through the USA helped him to get to know people and artists who consciously and naturally break down these genre boundaries.
BERNSTEINZIMMER has already performed as a warm-up for the internationally renowned artists Max Cooper and Beatrice Dillon and plays in modern ensembles such as Holly Schlott's UNIQUE, with the hypnotic experimental artist Laure Boer or in the sound art ensemble of the Munich composer and conductor Christopher Verworner (productions: HIOB, Freischütz). He was also engaged as a synthesizer and electronic musician at the Neukölln Opera. BERNSTEINZIMMER is also a band member of the Berlin duo MONONOKE and the Amsterdam trio FLORA SOPHI. During the pandemic, FLORA SOPHI's debut album “If/When” was partly written, recorded, produced, and mixed in BERNSTEINZIMMER's home studio in Berlin. On the album Rites De Passage, BERNSTEINZIMMER can be heard with three arrangements and reworks.
His debut Album HEILIGE HALLEN is going to be self-released on Oct. 10th, 2024.
BERNSTEINZIMMER lives and works in Berlin.
